The output of synthetic diamond in Zhengzhou reached 2.39 billion carats.

On September 19, as one of the series of activities of the 6th Abrasives Grinding Exhibition and 2023 Diamond Industry Conference, the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the birth of China's synthetic diamond was held in Zhengzhou. The reporter learned at the meeting that in 2022, the output of artificial diamond in Zhengzhou will reach 2.39 billion carats, the output of cubic boron nitride polycrystalline crystals will account for more than 80% of the country's total output, and the output of cubic boron nitride single crystals will exceed 70%. In addition, the output of superhard material tools for precision machining will also account for more than 30% of the country's total.

Superhard materials, especially synthetic diamonds and their products, are widely used in aerospace, rail transit, equipment manufacturing, semiconductor materials, jewelry and other industries. They have both industrial attributes and consumer goods functions. They are essential in the field of advanced manufacturing. The same potential in the field of fashion consumption is also huge, and it is more related to future industrial development.

At present, the industry has formed a good pattern of "global diamond to see China, Chinese diamond to see Henan", and looking back to the development history of synthetic diamond, the important nodes and milestones of industrial development were born in Henan and Zhengzhou. In 1965, Zhengzhou Sanshan Institute successfully built my country's first six-sided top press; in 1978, the synthetic diamond "121" project won the "National Science Conference Award".

As the "main position" for the development of superhard material industry in Zhengzhou, Zhengzhou High-tech Zone has gathered more than 1800 enterprises in related industries and 23 new material enterprises on the designated scale, collecting more than 70% of the medium and high-end innovation resources in the industry. Zhengzhou University, Henan University of Technology, Zhengzhou Abrasive Grinding Research Institute, Zhengzhou Machinery Research Institute and other key institutes and universities are gathered in the zone, and become the only national superhard material industry chain, the national torch plan superhard material industry base.

In recent years, scientific and technological innovation in the superhard material industry in the high-tech zone has been continuously strengthened, from synthetic large-scale cultivation of diamonds, to high-speed, high-efficiency and precision grinding wheels for engine crankshaft/camshaft grinding, large-size silicon wafers, high-efficiency precision cutting, grinding and polishing series of third-generation semiconductor materials, to forged six-sided top presses, high-power MPCVD equipment, and intelligent manufacturing equipment for high-end superhard material products, lead the development of the industry.
